Our March 12th meeting will be a hybrid CLE event on Special Needs Trusts and ABLE Accounts. Join us at noon at The Club at Eaglebrooke with Travis Finchum OR register to be with us virtually. Travis D. Finchum has been practicing law since 1996 and has been a Board Certified Elder Law attorney since 2002. He is the President and founder of the law firm Special Needs Lawyers, P.A.
Travis received his Bachelor's of Science Degree and Law Degree from the University of Florida. He is the past chair of the Special Needs Trust Committee of the Florida Bar's Elder Law Section and past chair of the Elder Law Board Certification Committee. In 2019, Travis was awarded the Elder Law Section Member of the Year award for his outstanding service. He currently serves as the Florida Bar’s Real Property, Probate, Trust Law Section (RPPTL) – Elder Law Section Liaison and serves on the Executive Council as the Liaison for both Sections. Travis serves on the Advisory Board of the Academy of Special Needs Planners, and is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys.
Mr. Finchum founded the Guardian Trusts in 2002 which assists individuals with disabilities in protecting their assets for use during their lifetimes without disqualifying them for much needed public benefits.
Travis will discuss the different types of Special Needs Trusts and how they apply in the legal areas of Estate Planning, Elder Law, Family Law and Personal Injury. He will also cover ABLE Accounts as a new tool to complement, and in some cases replace, a Special Needs Trust for a disabled individual. Finally, Travis will introduce an overview of the various public assistance programs available to a person with a disability in Florida.

Lakeland Bar Monthly Meetings...
Now you have TWO ways to stay connected and safe!
Lakeland Bar Association will now be offering TWO ways to stay connected at our monthly meeting. We are going HYBRID… This means, based upon your preference, you will be able to enjoy a meal and our program at the Club at Eaglebrooke OR you can ZOOM with us from the comfort of your office or home.
Here are the guidelines for each option:
1. Join us at the Club at Eaglebrooke at NOON on the second Friday of each month. ONLY 40 attendees will be admitted AND each attendee will need to register to attend. Meals will be staff served and each table will have limited seating for continued safety. Our speakers may be virtual at this meeting but it will provide those who are comfortable with an opportunity for socializing.
2. Join us via a ZOOM meeting and watch the meeting while eating your lunch from the comforts of your office or home. Each attendee will need to register to attend and a link and password will be sent to you.
